The NUC boss says the 143 universities in Nigeria can only accommodate 500,000 students. The National University Commission has set up a committee to make university education accessible to more admission seekers in Nigeria. Prof.  Abubakar Rasheed, the Executive Secretary of the commission made this known at a stakeholders’ seminar organised by the University of Bradford and Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), in Abuja. Represented by Mr Chris Maiyaki , a Director in his office, Rasheed said that the NUC is worried about the growing population of the youths in Nigeria and the high demand for tertiary education. “Nigeria is projected to be the third largest population by the year 2050. Angry youths set SARS office ablaze after the demise of their friend.

It goes without saying that a large number of the Nigerian populace have suffered in the hands of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) officials, a body meant to protect the lives and property of the citizens. However, with the negative news that has been trailing the organisation, it seems they did not get the memo as to what their responsibilities are. As gathered by crystalENT, the life of a young man has been cut short by a SARS operative. A young man identified as Ayotunde Babatunde Nafiu, was hit by a stray bullet fired by a SARS official identified as Gbadamosi Lukman. It was gathered that the student who was going to Iwo from Olupona was shot dead on Thursday night, August 23, and the incident led to a protest by the angry youths. According to reports, the deceased was waiting at a junction to board a bike after attending an annual sallah fest at Ajangbala, when he was hit by the bullet.
